OUR ROUTE FOR THE DAY
Start: 08:30 | Duration: 8 hours
Faial Valley
READY FOR PARADISE VIBES?
Hey explorer! Welcome to Heartbeat Madeira’s hidden gem tour to the east —a mix of amazing nature, local charm, and authentic Madeiran culture. You are a solo traveller, a small group traveller, or anyone seeking an individual travel experience in Madeira? We got you! You can look forward to one of the most beautiful cable car rides on the island and some breathtaking views along our tour.
We will pick you up at one of our meeting points, either in Funchal city center, Lido or Caniço. Let's go!
Guindaste Viewpoint: amazing views
We start our journey with a highlight: the (1) Guindaste viewpoint, offering a unique perspective of the island's rugged beauty from the mini skywalk. So get your (smartphone) camera ready to take some breathtaking island pictures.
Rocha do Navio Viewpoint: hidden jewel (incl. Cable Car)
Descend by cable car into a UNESCO-protected valley carved into the cliffs: Rocha do Navio (2). Discover the lush flora, and waterfalls with far fewer visitors than other coastal attractions. A small jewel which we recommend not to skip. Let's discover paradise!
Views and history: São Jorge
On our way to Santana we will stop for another beautiful viewpoint - Miradouro das Cabanas (3). We can have a sneak peak of what we will discover later: the view over Arco de São Jorge and beyond. Dive into São Jorge's history as we explore the Ruinas de São Jorge (4), the "door to the sea". Keep your camera ready, because this is a quite enchanting motive.
Santana House and Traditions
Our trip will take us to (5) Santana, where we visit an original: Sr. Manuel’s house – a window to Madeira’s history. This stop is all about deepening your understanding of Madeira's local culture and heritage. We also have our lunch break here - you can visit one of the restaurants or keep on strolling through the center of Santana.
Through Faial Valley to Miradouro São Lourenço: rugged beauty
Lets's dive into the lush greens of Faial Valley - another true hidden gem for travellers who prefer off‑beat comfort over tourist crowds. Lean back in our comfortable electric van and enjoy the views until we arrive our next stop: the Miradouro São Lourenço (6) . At the easternmost end of Madeira, a rough but beautiful coastal landscape awaits us. The view of the cliffs and the wild Atlantic Ocean is simply fascinating. We are in love with the untamed beauty of Madeira's east coast!
Poncha Time: Machico's laid-back vibes
Our last stop is in Machico (7) - the "birthplace" of Madeira. Here João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira first set foot on the island in 1419. We will sit down over a refreshing (and strong) Poncha and toasting to the perfect day in our little paradise. Cheers to us!
Back to Funchal: cheers to New Adventures
As our day comes to an end, we head back to Funchal. But the adventure doesn't have to end for you! We are happy to recommend our favorite Poncha spots where you can toast the day with your new friends.

Please be aware that the weather in Madeira is unpredictable, it has a sub tropical climate and can change unexpectedly during the day. That means sometimes paths or places are closed by the local authorities or it might be too dangerous to do the originally planned trip. In these cases we are doing our best to inform you in time and offer you alternatives, but sometimes we need to be flexible on the tour day itself. What will never be missed is good mood and the beauty of the island - no matter what weather, we are sure you will enjoy this paradise!
The cable car sometimes can be closed due to weather conditions or maintenance that could be carried out.
There could be a waiting time during the cable car activity at Rocha do Navio, we have no control on it. Some stops might get shorten time to arrive on time to the cable car before its closure.
