It'S PONCHA O'Clock - TIME TO TASTE AND LEARN HOW TO PREPARE THE ISLAND'S MOST POPULAR TRADITIONAL DRINK.
Poncha Time! We will stop in 4 different bars, which most tourists will never find and where you can meet the friendliest local people. Because we think: Poncha is a (Madeirense) lifestyle! You want to learn how to prepare the traditional drink? No worries, we got you! We will have a Poncha class in one of the bars where you can try to prepare Poncha by yourself. This is no “Poncha Crawl”, the focus is not on getting as drunk as possible – but to learn about the culture and local lifestyle. But: 4 Ponchas are also already a challenge, so let’s have fun and enjoy the island’s vibes!
We will kick off our Poncha tour at one of our meeting points in Funchal or Caniço. Ready to do the "Poncha shake"?
Miradouro das Neves: starting strong with an amazing view
No good tour in Madeira without having some amazing views as well: our first stop is at the Viewpoint das Neves, where we will introduce you with the first little sip of Poncha and explain more about the history.
Camacha: dive into the local lifestyle
Afterwards we will head to Camacha, a small town more up in the mountains. Here we will find some of the best (very) local Poncha bars. Originals, which you should not miss. Time for the first bar and Poncha of the day: the original Pescador!
Next stop is a tiny bar where the owner will show us the magic behind the preparation. You want to mix your own Poncha? Help Senhor Agostinho to prepare the Poncha “Regional” with the Caralhinho (Poncha Stick). Of course we will try our creation afterwards.
Bar Nr. 3 is colourful and another unique little place. Our Poncha Maracujá will be accompanied by some local nibbles.
The finale: choose your favorite flavor – cheers to us and to a wonderful tour! We will be at a place which is popular in the local community. Not only because of it’s Poncha, but also for its yummy local food. If you want to have some food to get back at your feet, we recommend to eat here (not included in the price).
Back to Funchal: new friends, new memories
We'll head back to Funchal. Your day doesn't have to end here, as we'll be happy to recommend our favourite poncha bars if you feel like having another drink with your tour buddies.
